It didn’t really work, and four years later, the episodes were re-edited to try and make them better.

There was no roadmap to do it, let alone any predecessors to compare the series to, so Arrested Development did what they thought was best and rewrote its own playbook. This was also the first instance of a dead show being revived for a new audience, and yes, Arrested Development paved the way for the constant stream of reboots and revivals we have today. At the time, there was definitely reason to celebrate, since during its time off the air, the Bluths gained a cult following. In case you’ve forgotten, Arrested Development was canceled in 2006. Seven years later, Netflix brought it back. Arrested Development would need to do something incredibly drastic to earn a Season 6 - and that's not an open invitation to do so. It's more chore than pleasure trying to get through the latest (and probably last) season of the show, and not only do the storylines slog along, but the actors seem to know that they've reached the end themselves.

It was full of incredibly simple storylines with layered storytelling and while each installment could be viewed on its own, put them all together and you've got a certified television binge that will keep you in stitches.
Arrested Development was always that good at making you laugh on the second or even third viewing of an episode. Upon rewatch - because come on, you’re rewatching it - you’ve more than likely discovered a joke or two you completely missed the first time around. It was a marathon to try and keep up with all the references and allusions the Bluths would cram into 20 or so minutes. Jokes would be set up in one episode, and pay off three episodes later, and then be called back in the following season. The original run for Arrested Development made its mark as being a highly absurdist look at a dysfunctional, sometimes incestious, family. It’s literally a joke, considering the glory the show once used to be. Season 4 of Arrested Development is tolerable at best, and Season 5 is a joke - but not in the funny ha ha sense. Not just the new episodes, but the show’s entire revival run on Netflix The first three seasons of Arrested Development are a masterclass in comedy writing and pacing, and gave us some of the most hilarious characters to grace the small screen in the last decade. Viewers have apparently already forgotten about it, too. Rather, it looks like Netflix is trying to quietly sweep the final episodes of the Bluth saga under the rug, and forget about it. It honestly looks like Netflix decided to forget there were new episodes as well. While, yes, the argument could be made that it’s not like Season 5B of Arrested Development deserves any sort of fanfair, it certainly deserves some mention. If you had no idea that there were even new episodes of the show, you’re not alone.
